By now, you have probably seen the story on the Dot. The stable version of KMyMoney for KDE4 is out the door. As usual, we had some last minute rushes, but nothing serious. The code has gone through more testing than ever and we restricted the changes in the last weeks to make sure we wouldn't be bitten by a last-minute change.

To me, the whole port effort was particularly special. I started the work on the port by commiting the code to SVN myself. About 500 commits and 15 months later, the stable release is out.

In the meantime, I took over as release manager for the KDE4 port, and got to know the internals of KDE much more than I expected. My first contacts with the translators, the sysadmins, everyone willing to help. I made mistakes and I learned a lot along the way.

The move also fostered collaboration with other apps, and the KDE Finance group was born. First, some mails among some developers, then a mailing list, and later in April a sprint where Alkimia was born.

A couple of months later I have been accepted as KDE e.V. member and I gained a lot more insight into the inner workings of KDE since then.

Along the way, I have learned a lot, enjoyed working on stuff, from coding through graphics design to translations and more. I have gained much more experience in the process than in my full time job, and the quality of the work I have seen makes any CMMi or any other quality buzzword out there scream in utter envy. It shows what a team of motivated people can do even with limited resources.
