I think a lot of Kubuntu Jaunty users have installed kde 4.3 from Kubuntu "official" backports PPA, and then are complaining about poor translations. See this lp bug for example : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-l10n-fr/+bug/409558

As KDE 4.3 packages are officially advertised on kubuntu website, it's too bad that we can't also benefit from the latest kde translations when using them, especially when translations are in a very good shape for the future release ...

Thanks for the bug report. I've now commented on it and requested for more information to help us solve it. We are working hard to make Kubuntu Karmic a good release with regards to translations, and such reports are really helpful in identifying and fixing bugs early.

On the technical side, I'm a bit confused that you are mentioning you are using KDE 4.3.1 packages in Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, since Jaunty was shipped with KDE 4.2.2, but I've requested you to provide the versions in the bug report in order to clarify this, so we can take it from there. There are two possible scenarios here:

* In case you are reporting this against Jaunty, these strings can be fixed in Launchpad and then they will be released in the next language pack update. If you want to test the fixes before, you can enable the weekly language pack PPA, as described here -> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/TranslationLifecycle#Automatically-...

* In case you are reporting this against Karmic, they can also be fixed in Launchpad, and since we are in the development cycle, they will be released directly into the distro.

There's actually a big difference between jaunty and karmic : kde 4.3 localization files have not been backported to Kubuntu jaunty PPA, whereas they are packaged in karmic. I have try to install the karmic kde-l10n deb for my language (french) and I've got a lot of untranslated strings, so it may not be the optimal solution. I have not try the latest karmic alpha though.

If somebody have a way to enjoy a good translation experience for kde 4.3 in jaunty, I'm definitely interested ! I thought it was very good with kde 4.2, and hope it will be the same in karmic. Too bad kde 4.3 have not hit the official jaunty backports repository.
