This wednesday we are releasing version 1.0 of KMyMoney. Over 3 years have gone since the latest stable version, 0.8.9. During that time, we have added a ton of features. Hey, I only officially joined the team a year and a half ago, but the whole team has worked on its own features, getting feedback from users, implementing pieces here and there, then getting full chunks of functionality out there to test, then ironing them out for others to test. The community has been very patient through all the process, giving us feedback, providing us with examples of cornercases, suggesting new features, letting us know of the annoyances we caused, and even standing the crashes we got here and there. We also got help with plugins, usability advices, documentation, and translations. If for nothing else, the community makes it worthwile to spend time on this project.

We are having a virtual release party on IRC on the #kmymoney channel of freenode.org at 19:00 UTC. I will be joining a little late since I'm at work at that time, but you can start without me. The rest of the team will be there. You can ask questions, say thanks and basically get to know them, because they are great guys, even if they are a little quiet sometimes. Also, I heard there will be a couple of special people, perhaps someone from KDE e.v.?

So, back to the point, what's new in this release? If you have been using 0.9.3, the list of new features is rather short. Version 0.9.3 was unofficially a release candidate. The main changes have to do with improved schedule occurrences, better DB support and performance, a lot of bug fixing, and a new look for KMyMoney. It looks more stylish now, and if you use the Oxygen or Tango icons, Robert Wadley, our resident designer, has prepared new icons to make KMM look better than ever. The splash screen on top is just a sample of that.

If the last version you have used is 0.8.9, then you are up for a lot of fun, or as close as you can get to that while using a finance manager application.

All importers have been improved and some of them have been rewritten and seriously hammered down to make them as good as possible.

We now have budgets and forecast, to control your current income and expenses, and let you have a peek into the future too. Have fun, and remember, how bad or good your future looks, it's up to you. We don't have a bias on that.

The reports have been improved and we have many new default reports, some of them even have charts now, because an image is worth a thousand words, right? Particularly, when it's a picture of your money.

The register is now more friendly. Transaction autocomplete, category suggestion, and the possibility to view and enter schedules right there make it easier to keep your accounts updated. Not to mention, the full featured transaction matching for those of you downloading info from online banking.

Last but not least, the summary page, that which is opened when you first start KMyMoney, has been revamped and given a lot of love. New components have been added, to give you more information on your current status at a glance. Information about your budget, your cash flow, and forecast is now accessible there. You even have a chart with your forecast net worth.

And a lot more, the list is very long, and you must be bored by now. No more screenshots for now, sorry. The new look is a surprise for our users.
