Well I understand that completely, but why even bother to ask? from a users standpoint its kind of like ok we want your opinion but we're not going to use it.

"For me the voting result just says "we as users would be fine with using a different name", but that doesn't mean "we voted for it, so you better do it!"."

That's not what I took away from it, I saw that 70% of the users agree a new name would be a lot better for the project than what it's already named. After all 70% is a huge margin not just a few points but a lot more than half your user base.

Personally I don't have a preferance, I just happened across the voting, read what was posted and saw what seemed to be a complete disregard for the populace opinion.

What you do with it is your choice, do what you want, but that's how so many companies and projects fail, by not listening to their customers.
