Asking for feedback from the community and then not giving feedback yourself is a bad thing, and I'm guilty of that. About 40 days ago, I created a poll on our forum, on whether we should change KMyMoney's name for the new version or not, and asked for new names. Well, here are the results.
95 people voted, some of them creating a forum account just for that. Changing the name won for an overwhelming 71%, and we got over 50 names we can choose from. Several other options were discarded, either because the names are already taken, similar to other products or too similar to the current name.
The development team will now have to assess the options and vote on what to do. As far as I can tell, there is no clear winner, but most of the team is more inclined to keep the current name and change it to a plain KMyMoney, upping the version number to 4 for the KDE4 version. Actually, the KDE4 version right now is 3.95 in preparation for that and we use the acronym KMM4 to refer to it, but we'll see how it goes.
I like a few of the options named in the poll, but you have to weigh in the effort to change the name and the brand recognition of an application that is over 9 years old, plus the emotional attachment to it after so much hard work went into it. Anyway, as I said in the poll, it's now up to the developers to decide.
