Should we change KMyMoney's name?
This discussion has been popping up from time to time for the last year. What if we change KMyMoney's name to something else? The change to KDE4 gives us a window of opportunity to make the switch, if we want to. So, I opened a poll on KMyMoney's forum. First, to vote on whether to keep the name or change it. Then, if the votes for a change win, to choose the winner. If you think you have a good name, please post there.
Now, most of the development team are inclined to keep the name. Just drop the 2 at the end, like we did for the SVN repository, and leave it at that. But, if a good option comes up, we are willing to listen. So far, the votes for a change are leading, but not for a big margin. Go vote and make your suggestion.
There are some loose rules on the poll. Since the development team is the one making change, we keep some prerrogative on whether we implement the final choice or not. Changing the name will bring a lot of changes in code, to keep our code consistent. We certainly won't do that for a small change like KMoney, or KMyMoney4. No numbers at the end to signal the version, btw. KMyMoney is a KDE application, no xMoney, gMoney, or whatever. We do have a lot of Gnome users, but the application thrives and performs best when used in a full KDE environment. It will do so even more in the next version. A nice geeky explanation behind a name can be a plus, and a K in it does not hurt, but it is not a constraint. Also, it is a personal finance manager. My Money, not Bank Money, Shop Money, Bank Money, nor Business Money. Our Money could be a nice touch of community, and a plus for the married users out there.
